Mini letter

Argh, learning how to put together videos is a never ending challenge. The bits and pieces aren't difficult, but there's such an overwhelming number of bits and pieces to master... In any case I'm continuing to learn. This past week I learned that rendering a long video in a high resolution was going to be rejected for being to large by YouTube. I also learned that when a render takes 12+ hours it is screamingly difficult to not lose your mind when the computer freezes at 99% rendered. Ah well. I finally got the project done Hooray!

As for my house, I have been playing the 'keep, give away, toss' game with lots of stuff. How long do you keep an art project before giving up? I've had several of mine for so long that I feel almost nostalgic about them.

We're getting together with friends for a BBQ tonight and I'm watching the fires north of Salmon closely since I'm supposed to be heading that direction on Monday.

Life is good and I really am grateful for the challenges I have.

Be creative y'all,
Jenny

July 22 Mini Letter

Dear friends,

YAY for not having to do foundation work on my house. We're now in the process of looking for a variety of contractors and a loan officer to see about a few more important upgrades. #1 is replacing my old vinyl siding that is chipping apart, #2 is fixing the chimney, and #3 is replacing my 1940s windows. We'll see how far down on my wish list I'll be able to afford, and it is a very long wish list.

My efforts to learn how to create YouTube videos is coming along. The short ones are easy, the longer ones are harder. I finally learned how to add music, how to adjust the sound between music track and spoken track, and how to insert still images over the top of the video track. YAY! Now I need to figure out how to create a better thumbnail, end cards, more with sound .... I figure it'll take me years before I can produce something I'm really proud of for audio/visual reasons. But right now I'm super proud that I can put it together at all. My most recent longish (50 min) video of a birding trip with Melinda to Chesterfield reservoir: video

Work is great and Shanna and I are having fun together working on house things and separately doing our own things.

Hugs to all of you

July 15 Mini Letter

Dear friends,

As you may know they are creating a new monster building across the street from my house. We're two years in and it's still in process. The entire first year was taken up with daily earthshaking, and I mean that literally. Recently I have begun to have concerns about my house's foundation. So for ~$500 I've got an engineer coming today to assess the status of this old house's foundation.

I've also got a siding/windows/gutters contractor coming. The plastic siding is starting to chip and I want it replaced before we start seeing water coming in. Oh, and let's not forget all the windows that won't open and are not energy efficient.

I've already got a chimney guy's quote for fixing our chimney, cleaning it, and switching our fireplaces from wood to gas. Though I am still thinking about how much money I want to spend on this. I must do the chimney fixing/cleaning it's the swap to gas that I'm pondering.

I'm really stressed about the foundation because that will be an enormous expense to fix. If all goes well we'll move forward on some of this. The housing market is so crazy here that it is better for me to invest in this house than it is to move elsewhere.

So this is what's on my mind. Along with work issues, worry about friends and loved ones, frustration that I haven't updated my personal blog nor created any new video content. Etc....

Hugs and best wishes on your journey
Jenny
